1/2 mile corner

one half mile. roughly 800 meters. World record time for the distance is one minute and forty one seconds, give or take. It's also the distance from the west edge of my village to the first country road. It looks enticingly close at sun rise, with wisps of mist floating over the fields...the first rays of light coming up behind you. It's also now my personal marker. I've been running out and back for the past week or so. A nice quiet stretch of concrete. I've been incorporating my own mini fartleks into the end of the run, picking out landmarks and increasing speed at each one, finishing with the fatman's sprint for the last 50 yards or so....it's good and I'm masochistically starting to look forward to my runs sans doggies. They get their walks at night, but this run belongs to me alone.
